Two U of G staff members will assume interim positions following this month’s retirement of Brian Pettigrew, assistant vice-president (institutional research and planning) and registrar.

Pettigrew will retire Feb. 19 after a 40-year career at the University of Guelph.

Beginning Feb. 22, Deanna McQuarrie, associate registrar, admission services, will serve as interim registrar, and Cathy Beattie will become interim assistant vice-president in Resource Planning and Analysis.

They will serve in the positions while the University proceeds with plans to improve services and strategic planning efforts by separating the two portfolios.

Searches will take place for both a new registrar and a new assistant vice-president (institutional research and planning).

Pettigrew joined U of G in 1976 as a student counsellor and later became director of a student-focused institutional research unit. He served as strategic planning change auditor and led implementation of the Colleague student system.

He was named registrar in 2002 and director of strategic enrolment management in 2005. In 2006, he also assumed responsibility for the consolidated units of Resource Planning and Analysis and Enrolment Statistics within Registrarial Services.

“We congratulate Brian on his retirement and Cathy and Deanna on assuming their new roles and responsibilities,” said Charlotte Yates, provost and vice-president (academic).
