Robin Begin, director of campus community police and fire prevention, has been named manager of students at risk in the Office of Student Affairs.

With the recent integration of health, wellness and counselling support services on campus, Student Affairs needed to provide additional leadership and support for student mental health and safety issues, says Brenda Whiteside, associate vice-president (student affairs).

“The reorganization of our student support services is part of the University’s continuous commitment to providing students with the best professional resources available,” Whiteside says.

As manager of students at risk, Begin will chair the Students at Risk and the Sexual Assault committees, and work with academic and support units across campus to identify and support students needing help.

She will extend support programs for students living off campus, and co-ordinate development and delivery of training in areas such as mental health, violence in the workplace and sexual violence. She will also initiate risk assessments when appropriate.

Begin had led several of these initiatives as campus police director.

Begin has agreed to continue as director of campus community police and fire prevention until a replacement is found, which is anticipated to be some time in the fall.
