A team of U of G engineering students recently reeled in third prize at the Canadian Engineering Competition, held at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Competing in the senior design category, team members Matt Border, Steven Davis, Evan Fitzpatrick and Kyle Montgomery were tasked with designing, implementing and presenting an autonomous ice-fishing device in nine hours. Their challenge was to create a prototype that could detect a bite, reel in the fish and move it to a safe location.

A second Guelph team of Greg Desroches, Andrew Beney, Diana Constantinescu and Mitchell Kuska competed in the consulting engineering category.
