A University of Guelph student was injured during an altercation on campus Friday. The University has been in contact with the family and has been told that the student, who is in hospital, will make a full recovery.
City of Guelph police are overseeing the investigation, with assistance from Campus Community Police. Guelph police arrested and charged a suspect on Sunday; the man is not a member of the University community.
According to a City of Guelph police report, an 18-year-old male called 911 around 5:20 p.m. to report that he had been stabbed by an unknown man.
Police say that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing concern for public safety.
An investigation is continuing. Guelph Police are requesting that anyone with information call Cst. D. VandenEnden at 519-824-1212, Ext. 7107.
“This is upsetting for our entire University community,” said Brenda Whiteside, associate vice-president (student affairs).
“The safety and security of our students has long been a source of pride at U of G. I want to assure the campus community that we are taking appropriate actions.”
