Prof. Donna Lero, Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, has been invited to speak at a North American expert group meeting to be held May 19 to 24 in Mexico City. The meeting is being organized by the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) in co-operation with the United Nations Focal Point on the Family.

Delegates to the meeting will recognize the 20th anniversary of the U.N.’s International Year of the Family (IYF). which established the objective of sustained, long-term effort to encourage governments to integrate a family perspective into national policymaking. Objectives for the 2014 expert group meeting include strengthening links among institutions interested in protecting the family and supporting the development of initiatives to protect this basic social institution.

At U of G, Lero holds the Jarislowsky Chair in Families and Work. She directs a program of research on public policies, workplace practices and community supports in the University’s Centre for Families, Work and Well-Being, which she co-founded.
