The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) published an extensive report  yesterday on the management of water resources in Canadian agriculture. The report was prepared by an expert panel that included Rene Van Acker, plant agriculture professor and associate dean external relations at the Ontario Agricultural College.

The council’s expert panel on water and agriculture began in 2010 a comprehensive evaluation of the science needed to better guide the sustainable management of water used in agriculture. The evaluation was requested by the federal minister of agriculture and agri-food to benefit future policy decisions.

The panel’s report, “Water and Agriculture in Canada: Towards Sustainable Management of Water Resources,” can be downloaded from the CCA website.

The council is an independent, not-for-profit corporation that supports independent, science-based, expert assessments to inform public policy development in Canada. Assessments are conducted by independent, multidisciplinary groups of experts from across Canada and abroad, and the work of these volunteers is made available to the public free of charge.
