The Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities will again provide funding to the University of Guelph to support women’s safety initiatives on campus.

Accredited student groups and governments, staff, faculty and employee groups at U of G may apply for funding, which is intended to help implement findings of safety audits, to inform students and employees about safety and security issues, and to support programs on safety and security needs of female students and employees.

Eligible projects are activities, public education, and facilities and equipment that address women’s safety, sexual harassment and violence against women.

U of G’s Human Rights and Equity Office (HREO) encourages submissions from or for at-risk campus populations, including aboriginal women, women of colour, women with disabilities, female shift workers, women in non-traditional studies, and lesbian, bisexual and transgendered women.

Earlier funded projects have included improved campus lighting, installation of emergency poles and women’s self-defence courses.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 22 at noon. The application template is available on the HREO website; email applications to hreinfo@hre.uoguelph.ca.

All initiatives that receive funding must be completed by March 31, 2013.
