Professor emeritus Andrew Winston, Department of Psychology, recently completed a term as president of the Society for the History of Psychology, a division of the American Psychological Association.

The division publishes the quarterly journal History of Psychology and seeks to extend the awareness and appreciation of the history of psychology as an aid to understanding contemporary psychology, psychology’s relation to other scientific fields and its role in society.

Winston is the first U of G faculty member known to have held the position and is a longtime contributor to research and writing in the history of psychology, including editing the 2003 textbook Defining Difference: Race and Racism in the History of Psychology.

He taught both introductory psychology and the history of psychology as a full-time faculty member at U of G and has continued in retirement to teach the latter course.
