The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre’s annual Beyond the Frame art auction raised a record profit of $70,000 and drew a crowd of more than 200 people. Proceeds from the Nov. 13 event will help to fund the art centre’s exhibitions, collections and education programs.
“We deeply appreciate the wonderful support of artists who generously donated their work for this important fundraising event,” said Judith Nasby, director and curator of the art centre. “Last year’s auction achieved a profit of $67,000, so this year’s event raised an additional $3,000.”
A total of 47 art works were sold in the live auction, including pieces by fine art professors Will Gorlitz and John Kissick, director of the School of Fine Art and Music. Kissick’s painting nabbed the top price at $7,600.
The auction works were on exhibition at the art centre from Oct. 4 to Nov. 13.
