The University of Guelph remains among the top schools worldwide in terms of sustainability according to new global rankings, a reflection of its strong expertise in environmental research and education.

The QS Sustainability Rankings evaluate universities around the world on their ability to navigate environmental, social and governance challenges. The rankings use criteria that include education, research, employability, equality, health and wellbeing and knowledge exchange.
In the area of environmental research, where U of G was measured in its success advancing six UN Sustainable Development Goals, the University ranked 80th in the world, climbing more than 300 spots since 2024. Among Canadian institutions, U of G ranked ninth.
More than 94% of the University’s departments engage in sustainability research through initiatives such as Soils at Guelph, Food from Thought, Morwick G360 Groundwater Research Institute and the Honey Bee Research Centre.
In the area of environmental education, where U of G was measured on its academic reputation in environmental, earth and marine sciences, the University ranked 117th globally. Among Canadian institutions, it ranked 10th.
U of G offers environmental-focused education in a multitude of programs across several faculties.
The Ontario Agricultural College recently launched a master of sustainable agriculture. In the Bachelor of Indigenous Environmental Science and Practice students weave Indigenous methodologies and world views with Western environmental science. The Marine and Freshwater Biology program capitalizes on U of G’s excellence in aquatic research, while the University’s highly competitive Bachelor of Landscape Architecture combines art and science with conservation to prepare students to design urban and rural communities.
