New rankings place U of G first in Canada for food science and technology, veterinary sciences
The University of Guelph has been ranked as one of the top universities in the world by subject, according to the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
U of G ranked first in Canada for veterinary sciences, continuing Ontario Veterinary College’s record of excellence.
Within food science and technology, U of G ranked first in Canada and first in the world for world-class faculty. At the Ontario Agricultural College, students learn from these award-winning faculty to build a healthier society through food and evolving technology.
The University also ranked second in Canada in biotechnology, agricultural sciences, and hospitality and tourism management.
As one of only eight Canadian institutions with at least three subjects ranked in the world’s top 50, U of G secured high global rankings in veterinary science (11th), food science and technology (18th) and agricultural sciences (43rd).
In addition, U of G ranked 51-75th globally and eighth in the world for world-class faculty in biotechnology. Here, College of Biological Science faculty lead programs like the Master of Biotechnology, preparing students to blend scientific training with practical business skills, in collaboration with the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics.
High ranking for exceptional faculty and research
The University climbed to the global top 200 for economics in this year’s rankings. Its hospitality and tourism management subject area also rose to the top 100 in the world, achieving 76-100th place. World-class research and amenities featured in these programs highlight how Lang students are propelled to global heights in restaurant, tourism and hospitality management careers.
Evaluating more than 2,000 institutions worldwide across 57 subject areas, the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy provides rankings based on world-class faculty, international collaboration, research quality, output and impact.
