She leads a globally recognized research program on field crop entomology and insect resistance management. Dr. Smith’s research spans pest biology, ecology, and management, addressing the needs of the agricultural industry in Canada, with the aim of improving productivity and sustainability. A major focus of Dr. Smith’s research is the incidence, influences, and prevention of insect resistance to transgenic crops.
Dr. Michael Steele, Professor, Department of Animal Biosciences, University of Guelph

Dr. Michael Steele is a Full Professor in the Department of Animal Biosciences, with his research aiming to explain ruminant physiology through a systems approach from the molecular to whole animal level. The overall objective of his research program is to develop a better understanding of how pre-weaning nutritional and management factors that are common in livestock production can impact gastrointestinal development and metabolism during the pre-weaning phase and later in life.
