Selecting a First Telescope for Astronomy

Thursday, November 23, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Event Navigation

Make exploring the night sky a little less intimidating and a lot more exciting! The first two hours of this presentation will introduce the most common types of telescopes, what they do, how they do it, and what you can expect to see. Some of the challenges to stargazing will be discussed, such as light pollution and an unfamiliarity with the night sky, and how these obstacles might be overcome. In the third hour, participants will be invited to look at – and through – a selection of small telescopes to see what each of these instruments can do.

Guest instructor: Trevor Chandler

Register by Nov. 15 to take advantage of our $55 early bird fee. After Nov. 15, registration is $65 per person. Maximum 30 adults.

Note: If we don’t have enough registrations by the early bird deadline the course may be cancelled.
