Fieldwork, Fun(draising), and friendship. How addressing barriers and decolonizing learning increases skills and community for BIPOC students. A collage of photos of BIPOC students doing fieldwork outdoors.

Aranya Iyer and Mariel Terebiznik, co-founders of Field Research in Ecology and Evolution Diversified (FREED), will present “Fieldwork, Fun(draising), and Friendship: How addressing barriers and decolonizing learning increases skills and community for BIPOC students” as part of the College of Biological Science’s Community Seminar Series. FREED is dedicated to increasing access to field work, research experiences and skills for students who are underrepresented in the fields of ecology and evolutionary biology.

The event will be held Jan. 20 at 11 a.m., both on campus in SSC 2315 and online. Visit the event website to access the meeting link.

The College of Biological Science Community Seminar Series is designed to promote the work and visibility of biologists from equity-deserving groups, increase awareness of barriers to inclusion facing biologists, and provide opportunities to learn about equity, diversity and inclusion. There will be two seminars per year, each presented by departmental EDI committees, with support from the college.
