Arboretum Trail Closed for Maintenance Work

A portion of a trail in the University of Guelph’s Arboretum will be closed for several weeks this summer as part of maintenance work.

The closure, which impacts the Arboretum Promenade, began the week of July 6 and is expected to run until mid-August. The promenade is a wide, scenic pedestrian corridor running from the Arboretum Road kiosk to the Arboretum Centre.

Visitors to The Arboretum are asked to avoid the fenced-in area throughout the duration of the closure. As work progresses, crews will shift the fence to ensure full access to the Promenade is not closed for the full summer.

The nearby Ivey Trail, which runs parallel to the Promenade, remains open for anyone hoping to explore The Arboretum.

The closure will allow for crews to complete interior wiring and cabling work for buildings at the Arboretum, as well as surrounding residences.

Part of the work will support renovations to The Arboretum Nature Centre, which offers hands-on, nature-based learning experiences for more than 3,500 youth each year. Improvements include installing wi-fi to support learning needs and citizen science and improving accessibility for the building. Once complete, the renovations will allow The Arboretum to welcome larger and more diverse groups and offer higher quality learning experiences for visitors.

Updates on the project will be available on The Arboretum’s social media pages and newsletter throughout the summer.
