U of G is committed to advancing the student experience through quality programs and services that support the personal, professional and academic development of our learners. We are pleased to share that Dr. Melinda Scott will continue to build on this commitment as our new Vice-Provost, Student Affairs. Dr. Scott will begin this role on March 18, 2024.

With more than twenty-two years of experience in the higher education sector and a U of G graduate, Dr. Scott joins us from the University of Toronto where she has been serving as the Executive Director, Office of the Vice-Provost, Students, for the past three years. Prior to that she held progressively senior positions at the University including serving as the Dean of Students of University College. Dr. Scott’s vast knowledge of the student experience has enabled her to successfully deliver institutional programs and services that enhance the student experience while working in close collaboration with Deans, Registrars and faculty members. As an instructor, Dr. Scott can also be found teaching graduate courses focused on student engagement, student services and student development theory.

“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Scott to the University of Guelph” shares Gwen Chapman, Provost and Vice-President, Academic. “Dr. Scott will play an instrumental role in continuing to shape the important programs and services we provide to our students including those who are just beginning their studies with us all the way through to our graduate programs and beyond. I would also like to extend my sincerest thanks and appreciation to Irene Thompson who has served as our interim Vice-Provost, Students Affairs for the last two years.”

Student Affairs is committed to delivering exceptional programs and services that support our students holistically – including their academic and personal growth. The team is comprised of six key areas including:  Athletics, the Child Care & Learning Centre, the Experiential Learning Hub, Residence Life, Student Experience, and Student Wellness Services. Student Affairs offers resources and training to faculty and staff which enhance their skills and help them to stay up to date with the latest trends in student development and campus culture.
