Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Canada will mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II with a federal holiday and a national day of mourning on Sept. 19. Provincial premiers may determine whether to announce a provincial holiday and day off.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has confirmed that Sept. 19 will not be a provincial holiday but will be a day of mourning and that Ontarians may observe a moment of silence at 1 p.m. The University of Guelph will be open and operational on Monday, Sept. 19. Our community members are encouraged to observe the moment of silence as they see fit.

Following government protocol, University of Guelph flags will remain at half-mast until sundown on Sept. 19 to mark the Queen’s passing.
