With the start of the fall semester just around the corner, the University is looking forward to welcoming our new students. Moving in more than 5,000 new undergrads takes a community-wide effort, and we’re grateful for your support and patience. The following information can help you prepare for a busier campus starting this Friday.

Move-In Weekend – Limited Parking and Busy Roads

Students will move into our residences Friday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 4. Many parking lots will be reserved for move-in activity. Consider carpooling, walking or taking public transit if you plan to be on campus during move-in.

Parking

If you plan to be on campus Friday, Saturday or Sunday, please park in the following lots (open to Yellow Zone, Red Zone and daily permit holders):

  • P10 (beside the Thornbrough building)
  • P12 (beside the ice rink)
  • P30 (off Smith Lane)
  • P59 (by the Bovey Greenhouses)
  • P64, P25, P26 (by OVC)

The following lots will be closed to all but move-in traffic: P8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 31, 44, 47, P49. Vehicles parked in a closed lot may be towed.

Accessing campus

By Bus: Buses will not pick up or drop off on campus Sept. 2 through 4. Bus stops will be relocated to 80 Stone Road W. for those three days.

By Road: From Sept. 2 through 4, please enter campus at South Ring Road and Stone Road (near the Village by the Arboretum). During move-in, you will not be able to access the majority of South Ring Road. All of East Ring Road, Dundas Lane and Macdonald Street are reserved for move-in traffic.

Traffic: Expect heavier than normal traffic on Stone Road, College Avenue, University Avenue, Smith Lane and Victoria Road. Keeping traffic moving is crucial for emergency response personnel and reduces the overall impact on city residents.

O-Week Kick-Off

Community building events for our new students take place Friday and Saturday, with O-Week officially kicking off Sunday, Sept. 4. Incoming students living both on and off campus are encouraged to get involved with O-Week activities! Details about the week’s events are available on GryphLife.
