Dr. Manish Raizada appeared on a recent episode of BBC News’ podcast The Climate Question to discuss alternatives to synthetic nitrogen fertilizer.
Raizada suggested ways to reduce synthetic fertilizer usage, such as more and better usage of legume crops, deep-rooted plants and crop rotation to fix nitrogen, and government-supported research and subsidies to encourage less fertilizer use.
A professor in the Department of Plant Agriculture, Raizada’s research focuses on technologies that use natural and biological resources to reduce the need for synthetic nitrogen fertilizers and pesticides.
