Dear U of G community,

Indira Naidoo-Harris, AVP of Diversity and Human Rights at U of G

May 1 marks the beginning of Asian Heritage Month in Canada. This is a time to honour and celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments and incredible cultures of people of Asian and South Asian descent in our communities and at the University of Guelph.

The theme for this year’s Asian Heritage Month is ‘Celebrating Innovation and Perseverance’. So take the time to learn about the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and reflect upon the many ways in which people of Asian descent have enriched our University and our country.

We should also see Asian Heritage Month as a time to come together and stand against all forms of anti-Asian racism and discrimination. This is a time to build equitable and inclusive learning, working and living environments for us all.

So please join me and the U of G community and celebrate Asian and South Asian Heritage throughout the month of May! Diversity is our strength!
