Dr. T. Ryan Gregory

Evolutionary and genome biologist Dr. T. Ryan Gregory spoke to TVO‘s The Agenda about the newest COVID-19 wave in Ontario.

Gregory analyzed Ontario’s vulnerability to a new subvariant of Omicron, BA.2, that has been spreading globally, and that is biologically and genetically different from the original Omicron strain, BA.1. He posited that if the BA.2 subvariant had its own name, perhaps public perceptions of its threat would be different.

Chair of the Department of Integrative Biology, he studies large-scale genome evolution and integrative genomics and evolutionary biology.
