The following updates are provided by the Return-to-Campuses steering committee.

Updated isolation requirements from provincial government

The Government of Ontario recently updated its isolation requirements for those who are close contacts of or who live with someone who has COVID-19.

If you test positive for COVID-19 or are experiencing symptoms, isolate and visit U of G’s What to do when you’re sick or have been exposed page.

Following the government’s new rules, if you are a close contact of or live with someone who has COVID-19, you may not need to isolate. Find the full details of updated isolation requirements on U of G’s “What to do when you’re sick or have been exposed” page.

Getting ready for the end of the semester and exams

The end of the semester is approaching, which means project deadlines and exam preparation for many of our students.

As we work to ensure course completion and student success, we will continue to put the health of our community first.

Heading into exam season, students are asked to keep the following in mind:

  • Labs, lectures and exams may shift to remote delivery if there is a cluster of cases in a learning environment. Instructors will let students know if such a change is needed.

  • If you’re sick, stay home, contact the COVID-19 call centre and complete a Student Self-Declaration form. You are not required to provide proof of illness (i.e., medical documentation) if you miss a lecture, lab or assessment due to illness or isolation requirements.

  • If you get sick and will miss an exam, contact your program counsellor immediately.

  • Free rapid testing kits provided by the Government of Ontario are available from local pharmacies and grocery stores. U of G has also ordered additional rapid testing kits for students. Pickup locations will be provided when we receive our order.

We’re in the home stretch of the semester. Let’s work together to keep each other safe!

Community spread and staying safe at U of G

Earlier this month, COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in most places across the province. People can now socialize in restaurants, at parties, in elementary and high schools, and with their friends and families without masks or proof of vaccination requirements. This change has led to a predicted increase in the spread of COVID-19 throughout Ontario.

Universities, including U of G, are among the few places where masks and proof of vaccination are still required. This added layer of protection helps limit the spread of COVID-19 on campus. Our COVID-19 Daily Screening form and call centre help ensure that when someone feels sick, they stay home, further limiting the risk on-site.

As we approach the end of the semester, we are making changes that help ensure student success for those who cannot attend campus due to illness or isolation requirements.

We are grateful for everything our community members have done to help protect themselves and each other from COVID-19. Thank you for following our COVID-19 safety measures, isolating when needed and contacting the COVID-19 call centre to report positive cases.

Get your COVID-19 vaccination or booster dose on campus

If you need a COVID-19 vaccination or a booster dose, contact Student Health Services to book an on-campus appointment. Under the government’s updated isolation requirements, close-contact household members 18 years of age and older are not required to isolate if they have received a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Close-contact household members under the age of 18 do not need to self-isolate if they are fully vaccinated.

Learning at U of G this summer?

U of G is pausing its COVID-19 vaccination and mask requirements as of May 1. The University cannot guarantee hybrid or remote courses for the summer semester. If you are enrolled in summer 2022 courses at U of G, we strongly encourage you to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible. That way, you will be prepared if the University reinstates COVID-19 vaccination as a requirement to access campus. Vaccination helps protect you against COVID-19 and ensures you can complete your courses if the vaccination requirement is reinstated.

The University’s COVID-19 website is your best source of information on U of G’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Return to Campuses website provides essential information for those coming to campus. Make sure you complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form every day before you arrive on site. If you test positive for or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, isolate and visit the What to do when you’re sick or have been exposed page.
