Dr. Evan Fraser, director of Arrell Food Institute, spoke to CBC’s Quirks & Quarks radio show for the Feb. 25 episode, “Feeding the future.”
Fraser discusses Canada’s future in terms of food sovereignty, including how a return to farming methods of the past is not only possible but necessary to provide food and find solutions to the climate crisis, and the role technology will play in it all.
“In other words, with careful management, farmers can become our front line in combatting climate change rather than being a big contributor to it,” Fraser said, adding, “we have to have sustainable food at scale and at cost.”
Fraser is a professor of geography and the creator of the web series “Feeding 9 Billion.” His focus on food and sustainable food systems bridges the corporate sector, government, civil society and academics.
