In an article in The Globe and Mail, Dr. Evan Fraser, the director of the Arrell Food Institute, provided his thoughts on the disruptions the pandemic has caused to Canada’s food system.
In the article, he warned that any mishap, no matter its size, can cause further trouble to Canada’s already heavily disrupted food supply system, and that Canadians will need to adapt to the upcoming changes.
One of the concerns Fraser noted is the agriculture industry’s labour shortage. He also said the series of disturbances to Canada’s food system showed how its faults need to be addressed.
Fraser is the Canada Research Chair in Global Food Security. He studies food security, food prices and rural agricultural policy, and how each is affected by climate change.
