Dr. Ryan Norris, Department of Integrative Biology, leads a project aimed at reintroducing the endangered mottled duskywing butterfly to the Pinery Provincial Park on Lake Huron.
CTV News Kitchener recently reported on the project.
Norris leads the Ontario Butterfly Species at Risk Recovery Team. This is the third year of a team project that involved capturing about two dozen female mottled duskywings. From them about 2,500 eggs were collected and hundreds of butterflies were raised in a special lab at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory, away from the public.
Norris is an international expert in the behaviour, conservation and evolution of migratory species.
