Dr. Tim Dewhirst

Dr. Timothy Dewhirst, a professor in U of G’s Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies, contributed a commentary to the Toronto Star that examined the ongoing problem of NHL players who continue to take to the ice even while nursing injuries.

Given that some players have come forward to admit they have health problems from pain medication, Dewhirst said questions need to be asked about the role of painkillers in enabling injured NHL players to stay in the game and the league’s messaging on the topic.

Dewhirst is a senior research fellow in marketing and public policy in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics. His research expertise includes sports, arts and entertainment marketing.
