Dr. Ryan Norris, an ecologist and professor in the Department of Integrative Biology, spoke to CBC Radio’s As it Happens about his research with PhD student Alan Wilcox and colleagues examining whether monarch butterflies lose their navigation abilities.
The team’s study found that monarch butterflies raised indoors still know how to fly south if given enough time to orient themselves. Previous studies had suggested these butterflies became disoriented when raised in captivity.
Norris is an ecologist interested in the behaviour and conservation of migratory birds, insects and animals.
