Dr. Anna Kate Shoveller, a professor in the Department of Animal Biosciences, spoke to the Toronto Star about whether pets needs customized foods based on “precision nutrition.”

Shoveller said it would be great to see individualized nutrition for dogs and cats that would intersect with veterinary practice and be based on lab-work.

She added that the pet food industry has exploded in growth in recent years and there are now plenty of good options available.

Shoveller is an expert in animal nutrition and energy metabolism and the chair of the Companion Animal Nutrition section of American Society of Animal Science.
