Dr. Ann Pegoraro, the Lang Chair in Sport Management in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, spoke to the Toronto Star about a small soccer club in England that has become the first and only professional soccer club paying female players the same as men.
Pegoraro said the move was encouraging but also noted that equal treatment for women players is about more than just pay; it’s ensuring that they are afforded all the same privileges and promotion as their male counterparts.
Pegoraro is the co-director of the newly formed National Research Hub for Gender Equity in Sport. She researches sports marketing and communication as well as gender equity in sport.
