Dear U of G community,

May is Asian and South Asian Heritage Month in Ontario. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments of  people of Asian and South Asian descent in our communities and at the University of Guelph.<

People of Asian and South Asian descent began arriving in North America over 150 years ago and since then have contributed to many aspects of our culture, commerce and public service across Canada.

As we reflect on the ways in which people of Asian and South Asian descent have enriched our communities and added to the dynamic fabric of our institution, we must also ensure we are doing our part to create equitable and inclusive learning and working environments at U of G.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on the disparities prevalent in our society and we’ve seen a rise in racism, hatred and discrimination. Through our policies and our Anti-Racism Action Plan, the University of Guelph is committed to taking steps to build a solid foundation of success for everyone on our campuses.

Join me and the U of G community in celebrating Asian and South Asian Heritage throughout the month of May!
