The 2021 Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising Medallion will be awarded to the University of Guelph-Humber’s academic advising team.
The team consists of Kimberley Zammit, Brenley DiFranco, Nasreene Corpuz Kasznia, Alyson Green, Hilton Lieu, Caroline Samrah-Sergnese, Lalita Manku and Cheryl Nicholas.
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U of GH team continued to provide exceptional support to students in seven programs. Student letters of support for the nomination praised the team for its creative and innovative approach to counselling and its commitment to inclusivity. Nominators said team members made a point of getting to know individual students.
Campus registrar Grant Kerr said that over the past four years, the team has helped to significantly reduce the number of students on academic probation or required to withdraw from their programs.
The annual award recognizes faculty advisers, program counsellors and academic advising administrators who have made an outstanding contribution to undergraduate academic advising at the University of Guelph.
The team was chosen as this year’s recipient by U of G’s Council on Undergraduate Academic Advising selection committee.
