Dr. Nigel Raine, a pollinator researcher in the School of Environmental Sciences, spoke to the National Observer about a decision by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency to allow the continued use of two neonicotinoid insecticides.

Raine noted that his and others’ research have found increasing evidence that aquatic insects and ground-nesting bees are particularly vulnerable to “neonics.”

Raine holds the Rebanks Family Chair in Pollinator Conservation and is a fellow of the Royal Entomological Society and the Linnean Society of London. His research focuses on pollinator behaviour and the monitoring of wild pollinator populations in Ontario.
