Dr. Tamara Small, a professor in Department of Political Science, spoke to Global News about what a federal election during a pandemic could be like, including the role that online campaigning is likely to play.
Small noted that an all-digital election campaign is bound to leave some behind because of the so-called “digital divide” that still leaves many Canadians without reliable internet access.
“And so, therefore, some people are not going to have the same sort of campaign as other people might,” she said.
Small researches many aspects of politics, including the influence of image in Canadian politics, political parties’ use of the internet for campaigning and the regulatory framework for digital technologies in Canadian elections.
