Several media outlets covered new research led by U of G research leadership chair Dr. Myrna Dawson the detailed the number of women and girls killed in Canada in 2020,  including The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star.

Dawson spearheaded the development of the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability (CFOJA) which has published the #CallItFemicide report annually since 2019.

Dawson is a professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the the director of the Centre for the Study of Social and Legal Responses to Violence. Her research focuses on trends in the social and legal responses to violence, with emphasis on violence against women and femicide.
