Dr. Josef Ackerman

New research led by Dr. Joe Ackerman, a professor in the Department of Integrative Biology, that found that windstorms linked to global warming are damaging water quality in Lake Erie and possibly other Great Lakes, was featured by The Associated Press.

Articles about the research appeared in more than two dozen publications across the U.S. and Canada, including the Washington Post.

Ackerman conducted the study with post-doc Dr. Aidin Jabbari and co-authors Dr. Leon Boegman, a professor of civil engineering at Queen’s University, and Dr. Yingming Zhao with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (OMNRF).

Ackerman researches the physical ecology of freshwater algae, bivalves and aquatic plants, as well as physical-biological interactions in lakes and rivers.
