The Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics MBA program has been named the top program in Canada for sustainability, according to a ranking by Corporate Knights, one of the world’s largest media publishers focused on responsible business.

The MBA program is ranked 6th in the world.

Now in its 18th year, the Better World MBA Ranking measures business schools worldwide for sustainability based on dedicated research institutes and centres, core curriculum courses, faculty research articles and citations, and faculty gender and racial diversity.

The ranking includes 151 MBA programs from around the world, including the top 100 in the FT Global MBA Ranking 2020.

The Lang School had an overall score of 91.27 per cent. Other prominent business schools in the 2020 global ranking include Schulich School of Business at York University, Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, MIT Sloan School of Management, University of California Berkeley and Wharton Business School.

Offered online along with on-campus residential experiences, the Lang MBA program is designed for managers and executives in finance, management, government, hospitality, and agriculture and related industries.

New to this year’s ranking is a focus on Canadian undergraduate programs and their emphasis on responsible business practices. The Lang School’s bachelor of commerce program placed second in Canada with an overall score of 84.39 per cent.

“Lang is extremely pleased to be recognized again for our commitment to developing ethical and responsible business leaders,” said Lysa Porth, dean of the Lang School. “We are also proud of our achievement in the category of faculty publications. Lang faculty consistently publish relevant and timely research in leading journals and are globally recognized for their focus on responsible business.”

Since Corporate Knights started its global ranking, the University of Guelph’s business school has ranked multiple times in the top 10. In 2018, the School ranked 9th in the world.

The Lang School is one of 39 global business schools named a champion of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education initiative.

In 2019, Lang students launched an annual case competition for sustainability and business ethics. The student-led competition will take place virtually this year.

“As educators, we need to inspire our students to collectively work towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” said Porth. “The SDGs provide us with a framework to find innovative, sustainable and real solutions to some of the world’s greatest social challenges.”

The ranking appears in this month’s education issue of Corporate Knights, a quarterly magazine distributed globally.
