Prof. Nita Chhinzer

Prof. Nita Chhinzer from the Department of Management in U of G’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics spoke with media about the importance of taking breaks from the monotony of working from home.

In an interview with CTVNews.ca, she discussed the so-called “fake morning commute” – a time dedicated every morning to be alone to gather thoughts before starting the day.

Chhinzer said a faux commute is an excellent way to differentiate the time spent working at home from non-job-related time at home. She added that many of those who once dreamed of working from home are struggling with being compelled to stay there and not leaving the house now and again.

She also spoke with CTV Kitchener about the idea of building a backyard office cabin.

“It’s an exclusive space where you can physically go to that space only for the sole purpose of working,” she said. “That helps us cognitively differentiate.”

Chhinzer is a professor of human resources who studies downsizing practices and aspects of employment ethics.
