U of G Flies Pride Flag Week of June 1

U of G will fly the Pride flag June 1-7, marking Guelph Pride and to celebrate and honour the LGBTQ2SIA+ community. LGBTQ2SIA+ represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, two-spirit, intersex, asexual and many other identities that fall outside of heterosexual and cisgender paradigms.

“Pride Month is a time to celebrate the achievements and history of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community. It also gives us an opportunity to pledge our deep commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive community at the University of Guelph,” says Indira Naidoo-Harris, AVP (diversity and human rights). “This Pride, take a moment to support and celebrate every member of our diverse LGBTQ2SIA+ University family. Everyone belongs. Happy Pride!”

Although we can’t be on campus to celebrate together, follow Student Experience on social media for online Pride events taking place in June.

“Pride Month celebrates the activism towards equity and equality that the LGBTQ2SIA+ community has achieved and will continue to work towards throughout society,” says Jarred Sanchez-Cacnio, sexual and gender diversity adviser.

“With in-person pride events being cancelled due to physical distancing, it has been amazing to see the creativity and innovation of our communities to engage with each other virtually and online,” they add.
