The list of major sporting events being cancelled or postponed because of concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grow. This week alone, the NBA, NHL, Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball have all suspended their seasons.

What will be the costs of these suspensions? Will the Olympics be next? What is lost when major sporting events are cancelled or postponed?

Prof. Norman O’Reilly, School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, is a leading scholar in the business of sport and is available for interviews.

O’Reilly can explain what is at stake in these cancellations and what sorts of alternative arrangements could be made if events decide to go ahead.

The director of the International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership at U of G’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, O’Reilly studies marketing, sponsorship, sport finance, social marketing and tourism management.
