Bricks and mortar shops are moving online due to COVID-19 prevention measures. CTV News in Kitchener talked to U of G entrepreneurship expert Prof. Felix Arndt about the challenges involved in making the transition.
Arndt said in a recent CTV News Kitchener report that learning to do business online is challenging for a business, especially when they have to compete with big online retailers.
“Suddenly you are a small business up against all these big services that have these international supply chains,” he said. “It is so difficult to build a new customer base in such a time.”
He recommended that business owners take full advantage of social media now that more people are at home and dependent on such platforms for social connection.
Arndt is the John F. Wood Chair in Entrepreneurship in the Department of Management, Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics.
