Prof. Lawrence Goodridge appears on CTV’s Your Morning

Prof. Lawrence Goodridge, Department of Food Science, appeared on CTV’s Your Morning show to discuss how climate change is likely to lead to more outbreaks of food-borne illnesses in the coming years.

Goodridge said there were three main climate change variables that can contribute to a rise in food-borne illnesses: 1) extreme rainfall that causes flooding and agricultural runoff; 2) warmer ocean that cause overgrowths of water-borne bacteria; and 3) rising air temperatures that increase the need for refrigeration

Goodridge holds the Leung Family Professorship in Food Safety in the Department of Food Science and pursues interdisciplinary research on food-borne pathogens.
