University of Guelph food safety expert Prof. Keith Warriner offered his thoughts to CTVNews.ca about the best way to hand wash dishes, given research that suggests there are more dangerous bacteria in the average kitchen sink than there are in the bathroom.

Warriner offered tips for washing dishes using hot water and bleach and letting the dishes air dry rather than using a dish towel. He also offered a few safety tips on avoiding raw chicken germ spread.

A professor in U of G’s Department of Food Science, Warriner researches food safety, food microbiology and pathogens. His team has helped advance knowledge in emerging pathogens, food-borne hazards detection technologies and intervention technologies.
