The 2019 Gryphon Singers choir

The Gryphon Singers choir has come in second place in the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs (Collegiate Choirs division), presented by Choral Canada.

The choir, led by Prof. Marta McCarthy of U of G’s School of Fine Art and Music, was awarded the prize over the Canada Day weekend at the Unisong Choral Festival in Ottawa.

The competition was open to all Canadian amateur choirs coast-to-coast and featured a diverse and competitive pool of applicants.

The National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs is designed to showcase amateur choirs of all types and encourages the performance of Canadian works, including French-language pieces.

It was presented in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts and with support from CBC Music, Centre d’excellence artistique de l’Ontario and UNISONG.
