Next June, U of G will co-host the new Guelph Games for amateur athletes ages 30+. The annual multi-sport event will offer competitors and fans an unparalleled competition experience in a festival-like atmosphere, say organizers.

Billed as “Canada’s Masters Championships,” the Guelph Games promote lifelong fitness. U of G will provide first-class facilities for most of the competitions, with venues downtown also hosting events. A daily Festival of Sports will offer music, food and drinks.

“Our involvement hosting major events, along with our award-winning athletic facilities, will provide the ultimate sport experience for those coming to compete,” says Scott McRoberts, Athletic Director.

The inaugural Guelph Games will take place June 25 to 28, 2020, and will return annually for the last weekend in June.

About 1,000 athletes, along with their coaches, families and friends, are expected during the Games.

“Masters Games are more than just competition. The games provide a renewed desire for individuals to train and celebrate their accomplishments, along with meeting new friends and excitement for sport,” says Rob Newman, CEO of the 2017 America Masters. “I’m excited to be working on bringing these games to life in Guelph.”
