Prof. Lawrence Goodridge, with the University of Guelph’s Canadian Research Institute for Food Safety, spoke with Global News Online about the most common food-borne illnesses and what foods carry them.
Goodridge, a professor in the Department of Food Science, offered the basics on such food-borne pathogens as norovirus, campylobacter, salmonella and E. coli.
He said most food-borne illness can be prevented by washing your hands, cooking foods thoroughly, and washing raw fruits and vegetables before eating them.
Goodridge holds the Leung Family Professorship in Food Safety.
