Sexuality educator and award-winning writer Cory Silverberg will speak March 19 about the need for a fundamental redesign of sex education.
Hosted by the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, the event will be held at 7 p.m. at Cutten Fields.
Silverberg, co-author of three books including the children’s book Sex is a Funny Word, will discuss how sex ed needs to address justice, including consent, violence and pleasure, rather than just procreation and disease. Given that young people are learning about sex outside of the classroom, it’s time we had an approach to sex education that meets them there, he said.
Silverberg received a master’s degree in education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Since 1997, he has led workshops for organizations across North America on topics including gender expression and identity, sexuality and disability, technology and consent, and access +inclusion.
