With the ongoing U.S. government shutdown, there is growing concern about food safety in the country.
U of G food science professor Keith Warriner spoke with Global News this week for a story about the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s scaling back inspections amid the shutdown.
Warriner said limited FDA operation may not be as worrisome as it appears. Food industry regulations and practices will remain in place and ensure food safety, he said.
A food safety and microbiology expert, he studies safety of fresh produce and risk of consumer infection from resistance to antibiotic use in animal production.
