University of Guelph-Humber’s Lindsay Barton was interviewed for a July 20 Today’s Parent article about how kids’ tantrums can sometimes be healthy.
Barton, a psychotherapist who teaches in the University of Guelph-Humber’s early childhood studies program, said people tend to fear angry feelings and want to eliminate them as soon as possible. She talked about the dangers of overconsoling children and offered tips to parents for handling their child’s emotional ups and downs — as well as their own.
She studies dynamic approaches to therapy, including how therapists can use both behaviourist and psychodynamic approaches when working with children.
