U of G Prof. Michael von Massow appeared in July 16 stories talking about how to look for and buy Canadian products at the grocery store.

The story follows the #BuyCanadian movement and many consumers who have vowed to buy only made-in-Canada products after the federal government put tariffs on dozens of U.S. goods as part of a retaliation in an escalating trade war with the U.S.

The story got picked up by the Toronto Star, National Post, BNN Bloomberg and CTV News.

A professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics, von Massow talked about a variety of products from yogurt to coffee to orange juice and how shoppers can determine what products are made in Canada and which ones are not.

Yogurt is almost all Canadian-made, said von Massow, while orange juice is generally made from American or South American oranges that are sometimes sent as concentrate to Canada for processing with water.

He also discussed coffee, soy sauce, mayonnaise, chocolate, canned foods and toilet paper.

Von Massow studies food value chains, revenue management and sustainability.
