Prof. Scott Weese was interviewed by CBC News for a May 1 story about a provincial wildlife group alleging that Ontario is wasting millions of dollars on what the group calls an unnecessary rabies prevention strategy.
A professor and infectious disease specialist at the Ontario Veterinary College, Weese was consulted by CBC as an expert, and spoke about some of the claims of the Ontario Wildlife Coalition. He said the idea of cutting back on rabies prevention arises periodically and that with infection control, “success breeds complacency.”
Weese holds a Canada Research Chair in Zoonotic Diseases and is a leading researcher on transmission of infectious diseases from animals to humans.
